Project Aims to Boost US Competitiveness

A cross-disciplinary team of HBS faculty, led by Professors Michael Porter and Jan Rivkin, has launched a project on US competitiveness that will feature a special spring 2012 issue of the Harvard Business Review and frame an on-going research agenda. “America’s ability to compete is an issue of global significance,” notes Dean Nitin Nohria.

“Our goal is not simply to study US competitiveness,” explains Porter. “We intend to mobilize our alumni, the business community, and other stakeholders to take actions that boost America’s contribution to the global economy.”

Accordingly, on Wednesday, October 5, 2011, Dean Nohria emailed all alumni to invite their assistance by completing a survey, writing that “the project reflects our ambition to take on—and find practical solutions for addressing—society’s most important challenges.” The survey asks alumni for their perspective on the state of US competitiveness and ways to improve it. Results will contribute to knowledge about US competitiveness and help the faculty research team develop action agendas for business leaders and policymakers.

The survey is strictly confidential and is being administered by Abt SRBI, a leading business research company. If you have not yet received an email regarding the survey, please contact Manjari Raman at mraman@hbs.edu.
