We seem to have stumped most of you with this photo showing a group of students waiting in front of an office whose front counter is closed with a grille. But Joe Bower (MBA ’61, DBA ’63) pinpointed the location as the basement of Baker: “That group of students is waiting for Baker 20 to open so they can pick up cases.” Melvin Gordon (MBA 1943 March) identified the central figure, adjusting his tie, as Claude Wilson (MBA 1943 May), now deceased: “Claude was a wonderful songwriter and pianist. He and I wrote the music to the HBS Quartermaster ROTC musical show called Is This the Army? which was performed at Harvard’s Sanders Theatre for an audience of about 1,200 people on November 28, 1942, the evening of Boston’s deadly Cocoanut Grove fire.” George Hanford (MBA ’43 March) wrote, “I can’t help observing that they all look too young to be college graduates, even in the days of saddle shoes.” These days cases are still being distributed from a basement office: Spangler 027.
