Christensen gladly gave up the certainty of planned lectures for the ambiguity of free-flowing discussion driven by his students.

  • 1943 Earns his MBA
  • 1953 Earns DCS degree and is appointed an assistant professor
  • 1958 Appointed full professor
  • 1963 Named the first George F. Baker, Jr. Professor of Business Administration
  • 1965 Coauthors Business Policy: Text and Cases
  • 1981 Authors Teaching by the Case Method (Teaching and the Case Method in subsequent editions)
  • 1984 “Teaching by the Case Method” colloquium held in honor of the School’s 75th anniversary, attracting 85 participants from 60 universities around the world
  • 1984 Named the Robert Walmsley University Professor
  • 1987 Receives the Academy of Management’s Outstanding Educator Award
  • 1988 C. Roland Christensen Professorship of Business Administration endowed by the MBA Class of 1963
  • 1992 Edits Education for Judgment: The Artistry of Discussion Leadership
  • 1993 Receives HBS Distinguished Service Award
  • 2000 C. Roland Christensen Center established at the University of Utah
  • 2004 C. Roland Christensen Center for Teaching and Learning established at HBS
