What’s Going on Here?

Who, what, where, when, and why….we’d appreciate any information that will help us identify what’s going on in this photograph plucked from the archives of Baker Library.

Please contact us at bulletin@hbs.edu, or HBS Alumni Bulletin, Teele Hall 361, Soldiers Field, Boston, MA 02163.

We’ll update you on what we have learned in the next issue. Thank you!

LAST ISSUE’S LAST LOOK: Thanks to MBA-ers George Hanford (’43/3), Will Haseman (’47/2), Jeff Asher (’48/3), Nicholas Hill (’49), Jack Beggs (’56), Lew Schneider (’60, DBA ’63), and Frederick Schrader (’64), most of whom identified these cheaply made buildings — known informally as Tortilla Flats after the John Steinbeck novel — as temporary postwar housing for married students, located roughly where Kresge Hall now is. Haseman recalls that his family’s apartment in the project was close by the Dean’s House and that his son thought Dean was the name of the big dog that played there. See page 4 for letters to the editor from Beggs, Hill, and Schrader with more details about life in Tortilla Flats.
