LAST ISSUE’S LAST LOOK: Our thanks to MBA-ers Gordon Kingsley (’59), Grant Annable (’65), John Hoey (’72), Chris Reilly (’74), Paul Lausell (’75), and Jorge Henriquez (’99), most of whom identified these men as pitching pennies. The game (called rayuela in Spanish, Henriquez points out) is a competition to see who can toss a coin closest to a wall or line (in this case, the opposite bricks lining the pathway) without hitting or crossing it. The winner gets all the coins, which could be pennies, nickels, dimes, or quarters. Sartorial evidence suggests the photo was taken in the late 1930s or early 1940s. See letters to the editor from Kingsley and Lausell with more about the game.
