What’s Going on Here?

Who, what, where, when, and why….we’d appreciate any information that will help us identify what’s going on in this photograph plucked from the archives of Baker Library.

Please contact us at bulletin@hbs.edu, or HBS Alumni Bulletin, Teele Hall 361, Soldiers Field, Boston, MA 02163.

We’ll update you on what we have learned in the next issue. Thank you!

LAST ISSUE’S LAST LOOK: Thanks to Joe Anderson (MBA ’69), Bob Brown (MBA ’73), Ron Demer (MBA ’64), Deborah Gelin (MBA ’83), Yoni Hessler (MBA ’85), Diane Nabatoff (MBA ’82), Beth Miller Rivera (MBA ’98), and David Yermack (MBA ’89, PHDBE ’94) for identifying Liza Minnelli as the center of attention during Harvard College’s 1973 Hasty Pudding Woman of the Year celebration. As Demer points out, Minnelli, seated in an open car with Baker Library in the background, is attended by costumed cast members of the Pudding’s “annual pun-laden musical extravaganza where all of the onstage cast are male Harvard students, with many impersonating babes (and some of them look pretty good).”

Tom Parry (AB ’74), publicity manager for the 1973 show, Bewitched Bayou, dreamed up the idea for the parade, the Pudding’s first. It began at HBS (because the parade’s mounted-police escorts needed a large parking lot for their horse vans) before crossing the river to the Pudding clubhouse, entertaining some 10,000 spectators along the way. Parry reports that the person seated next to Minnelli is Desi Arnaz Jr., “her boyfriend at the time.” As for faces in the crowd, Joe Anderson identifies himself, while Bob Brown spots Section B mates Rick Adler, Rad Ewing, Ken Freeman, Joel Glasky, Lowell Robinson, and Dave Scoon.
