Around the World with HBS
The 2006 alumni travel program spans the globe, from Mayan ruins and Cambodian temples to insider tours of Casablanca and Buenos Aires. See the sights and soak up the culture along with other HBS alums, family, and friends. Scrum’s the Word
Calling all HBS alumni ruggers. Pack your kits and head to Soldiers Field for a fall classic October 8: the HBS Old Boys vs. the HBS Rugby Football Club. Each fall, alumni ruggers fly in from around the world for a weekend of camaraderie, centered on the Saturday face-off. Old Boys team president Mike Rush (MBA ’72) is recruiting new members. Fanikos Is New HBS Club Liaison
Dean Fanikos, a graduate of Harvard College and the University of Virginia’s Darden School, has joined the Alumni Relations staff as associate director for clubs and associations. More than 20,000 alumni in 39 countries belong to 109 HBS clubs and associations. Fanikos will use his expertise in strategic planning, marketing, and customer service to support club and association leaders in their efforts to provide learning, networking, and socializing opportunities for alumni.
Service Leadership Fellows Named
Eight members of the Class of 2005 left Soldiers Field last spring with one-year fellowships coordinated by the HBS Service Leadership Fellows Program. The program encourages graduating students to gain experience in nonprofit and public-sector organizations. The fellows and organizations are Valerie Bockstette, New Sector Alliance, Boston; Glen Brenner, Mayor’s Office, City of Boston; Juan Fernandez, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle; Jennifer Houston, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, New York; Monisha Kapila, ACCION International, Boston; Cindy Ko, Endeavor Global, New York; Janelle Lin, LA’s BEST After School Enrichment Program, Los Angeles; and Marisa White, NewSchools Venture Fund, San Francisco.
Cooper Elected Alumni Board President
Peter J. Cooper (MBA ’75) is the new president of the HBS Alumni Association Board of Directors. President and CEO of Scienta Health Inc., in Toronto, Cooper is the first international president of the Alumni Board and will serve for two years. He joined the board in 2002 and served as a vice president last year. Cooper, a native of South Africa, moved to Canada 24 years ago. He and a physician partner founded Scienta Health in 2004 to focus on preventive health care.
