Online Job Bank Debuts

Building on the traditional strengths and advantages of alumni networking, a newly launched online Alumni Job Bank has upgraded the informal network into a powerful and comprehensive tool, leveraging the success of the MBA Job Bank upon which it is modeled.

“Technology has greatly enhanced the benefits to both job seekers and employers, as searches can now be made by industry, function, location, salary, and several other variables,” says Christine Sullivan, director of Alumni Career Services. She notes that as of mid-December, the job bank had posted more than 1,000 positions in 47 geographic regions (primarily in the United States), representing 61 industries and 34 functional areas.

Of its strong portfolio of job opportunities and employers, Sullivan highlights the fact that the job bank’s listings include part-time work and temporary consulting assignments suitable for people at any career stage. The job bank plans to reach out to the Fortune 500 and other companies to inform them of its services and to increase its international listings, currently about 10 percent of its total. (HBS affiliation is not required for potential employers, and there is no charge for job postings.)

Says Sullivan, “We realize that our alumni will experience a number of job shifts, and perhaps even industry changes, over the course of their professional lives. We hope the recent improvements to the Alumni Job Bank will go a long way toward supporting them as they navigate through those changes.”

The Alumni Job Bank is part of the suite of career services offered to HBS alumni at no cost. Other career resources include individual career coaching, a new Web-based career tool kit, testing, career-research assistance through Baker Library, and more.
