REMEMBRANCE
AND RENEWAL |
Last October 47, some thirteen hundred graduates and guests
from the MBA Classes of 1956, 1961, 1966, 1971, and 1976 gathered
at HBS for the traditional round of academic sessions and social
gatherings. The School was alive with activity as tides of former
and current MBA students shared the campus during a weekend of lovely
autumn weather.
With the country still stunned by the September 11 attacks and their
aftermath, this years event seemed especially meaningful,
as a way for participants to reconnect but also to draw strength
and understanding from one another. The large turnout suggested
the importance that HBS and its values still have among its alumni,
not only in a time when memories are to be celebrated, but also
in a troubling time of challenges and introspection.
In a welcoming speech to returning alumni, Dean Kim B. Clark noted
that events of great moment seem to strip away the facades
we build around ourselves to expose what is most important
and even most precious in our lives. For me, and Im sure for
you as well, these things are the people in our lives, our relationships
with them, and our commitments to them.
