A member of the HBS faculty since 1980, William A. Sahlman holds the Dimitri V. D'ArbeloffMBA Class of 1955 Professorship and is cochair of the Entrepreneurial and Service Management Unit. He currently teaches The Entrepreneurial Manager, a revamped required course that replaces the General Management course. Since he first developed the Entrepreneurial Finance elective in 1985, Sahlman has worked to bring entrepreneurial studies into the HBS curriculum. Sahlman says he aims to marry his research and teaching efforts with his outside activities: "I have been involved as a director, advisor, or investor in a large number of companies, some successful, some not," he says. "The latter category has provided a rich set of self-deprecating case studies for my course. It is much easier to teach about the risks and rewards of entrepreneurship when you have experienced both." |
