Good Day, Sunshine

Beautiful, sunny autumn days provided a spectacular backdrop for eighteen hundred alumni and guests who returned to HBS for fall reunions. Members of the MBA Classes of 1949, 1954, 1959, 1964, 1969, and 1974 spent the first weekend of October renewing old friendships, getting briefed on developments at the School, and enjoying faculty presentations.

"Our alumni are the measure of the School," said Dean Kim B. Clark in a welcoming address to all classes. "I am grateful for what you do in your lives, for the standards that you set, and for the values that you hold." HBS Fund chairman C. Bruce Johnstone (MBA '66) also spoke to all alumni. He paid tribute to the success of the reunion campaigns, noting that the Class of 1964 had already set a new 35th Reunion Campaign record by raising over $4.4 million. Johnstone reported that annual giving as a whole was at an all-time high, having reached more than $32.6 million for fiscal year 1999.

In addition to the events that each returning class held - both on and off campus - grads and guests could attend a variety of faculty presentations on topics such as leadership in times of change, consumer-driven health care, entrepreneurial marketing, and corporate synergy.

Concluding his remarks, Clark described the School as strong, vibrant, innovative, and principled, and he pledged that HBS "will be true to its legacy and [will continue to be] a school that you will always be proud of."
